PAF Summer University screening program
KADIST has been invited by curator and Performing Arts Forum (PAF) member Simon Asencio to collaborate on the Summer University 2024 program. A series of three screenings of films selected from the KADIST Collection will be organized on Sundays August 11, 18 and 25, 2024.
This year’s programme, shaped in collaboration by Simon Asencio, Lietje Bauwens, James Goodwin, Matt Hare, Tom Lye, Louis Morelle, Vanessa Ohlraun, Frida Sandström, Nina Sarnelle, Magdalena Solli and William Spendlove, will include a handful of running threads alongside the brilliant chaos of autonomous sessions.
The Summer University organizing team has devised a film programme from the KADIST collection designed to act as a prism for reflecting on the state of the university and pedagogy today. Punctuating the three week curriculum, screenings will be held each Sunday evening, which is a day of rest from the SU programme. These films and discussions will provide a point of juncture between the week that just happened and the week to come, a moment of digestion and opening.
On the evening of arrivals, just before the start of the rest of the programme, Adelita Husni Bey’s Postcards from the Desert Island and Jonas Van and Juno’s KEBRANTO will invite attendees to consider the function of imagination and speculation as prefigurative forms of world building and knowledge production. On the second Sunday, The Anatomy Classroom by Hikaru Fujii and Aldona by Emilija Škarnulyte will address the material condition of knowledge and its finitude when confronted with abrupt change, be it on a personal, historical and ecological scale. On the third Sunday, Ana Vaz’s É Noite na América will offer a reflection on the silent witnesses of the human episteme: a reminder of the fugitivity and incommensurability of the non-human realm.
This collaboration is part of KADIST’s ongoing international program Double Takes, which activates film and video works through physical and online presentations at partner institutions and on KADIST.Tv Learn more.
