KADIST San Francisco: Collection Fellowship, Asia
KADIST is seeking a Collection Fellow based in the Asia Pacific for November 2023 (6-month position with 8-10 hours per week commitment)
KADIST offers a paid six-month collection fellowship to an emerging curator or recent graduate of art history, museum studies, critical writing, or a related field from college or university programs. Based in the Asia Pacific, the Collection fellow is provided with an opportunity to gain professional experience and develop the skills needed to work with collections within an international contemporary art institution. Working remotely in a collaborative, dynamic arts environment, the Collection Fellow assists various staff members in developing, communicating, and managing the KADIST collection. Focusing on photographs and videos by selected collection artists living and working in the Asia Pacific, the Collection Fellow will research and write original short texts about their works, prepare materials for the committee’s review, assist with the administration of incoming loans, and liaise with the production of short videos about artworks in the collection, among others. The Collection Fellow becomes a vital team member in a large international network of artists, advisors, curators, and other practitioners committed to contemporary art and societal issues. The position is remote, working closely with staff in Asia and/or the United States.
Responsibilities
– Produce original texts on the practice and artworks of at least 4-6 selected artists living and working in the Asia Pacific, to be shared with KADIST advisors and staff worldwide
– Nominate videos or photographs from the selected artists for long-term loans for KADIST programs (aka licenses)
– Participate in the organization-wide review process of artworks nominated for its video library
– Assist the administration of loans and other logistics
– Collaborate with collection artists and video editors to produce 3-5 short video content for social media
Qualifications
The ideal candidate is highly motivated, extremely organized, personable, and detail-oriented and envisions themselves to be part of an international contemporary art nonprofit. They must possess the following qualities:
– Proficiency and fluency in both spoken and written English
– Knowledge of contemporary artists’ practices, artworks, ideas, and art scenes in Asia Pacific
– Ability and fluency in writing concise descriptions of artworks and artist biographies
– Eagerness to engage in research practices, spontaneous discussion, and considered argument
– Meticulous attention to detail with rigorous administrative and multi-tasking skills
– Capacity to work independently and autonomously while remaining proactive, communicative, and open to feedback
Position Details
The fellowship requires a six-month commitment, with an average of 8-10 hours a week of work, and comes with a stipend of USD 5,000. This is a remote position with regular online meetings. The fellowship will begin the week of November 6, 2023, subject to the candidate’s availability. The fellowship agreement for this independent contractor position will be made with Artnow International, Inc, the nonprofit organization administrating KADIST in the United States.
