Xavier Marrades
-
Marrades was born in Barcelona and grew up in the Catalan village of Cervera. He also lived for several years in New York City and Brazil—particularly Salvador—locations that have shaped his research and served as locations for his projects. His film work remains a solo endeavor, more akin to an artisan’s craft than present-day filmmaking’s appetite for large productions. His projects, moving between non-fiction, artist video and experimental film, have a rhythm that reveals the distinctive intelligence of someone formally trained as a musician. Marrades’ previous work-mostly shorts–have been screened in festivals, art centers and cinemas around the world. His multi-award winning short Cucli was written about in the Atlantic Magazine among others.
