Jonas Staal
L’artiste Jonas Staal mènera une résidence de recherche pendant le mois de novembre 2012.
Jonas Staal (né en 1981) a étudié l’art monumental à l’Enschede aux Pays-Bas et Boston, USA. Il travaille actuellement sur sa recherche de doctorat intitulée l’Art et la Propagande au 21e siècle : une Perspective hollandaise à l’Université de Leiden NL. Son travail comprend des interventions dans l’espace public, des expositions, des conférences et des publications, qui se concentrent sur la relation entre l’art, la politique et l’idéologie. Son essai Post-propagande (Fonds BKVB, 2009) et Power?… To Which People?! (Jap Sam Réserve, 2010) fournit la base théorique de cette ligne de recherche. Son livre le plus récent est l’Art, la Propriété de Politique III : Architecture Fermée (Onomatopée, 2011), une recherche portant sur un modèle de prison développé par la femme politique Fleur Agemma, qui appartient au Freedom Party (PVV) , le parti d’extrême droite. Ses projets ont été présentés entre autre au Van Abbemuseum à Eindhoven, David Roberts Art Foundation à Londres, Extra City Kunsthal Anvers, Kadist Art Foundation, Paris, dans l’exposition « Enacting Populism » de Matteo Lucchetti et à la 7ème Biennale de Berlin.
Il vit et travaille à Rotterdam, Pays-Bas.

Jonas Staal (b.1981) has studied monumental art in Enschede NL and Boston USA. He currently works on his PhD research entitled Art and Propaganda in the 21st Century: A Dutch Perspective at the University of Leiden NL. His work includes interventions in public space, exhibitions, lectures, and publications, focusing on the relationship between art, politics and ideology. His essay Post-propaganda (Fonds BKVB, 2009) and publication Power?… To Which People?! (Jap Sam Books, 2010) provides the theoretical basis for this line of work. His most recent book is Art, Property of Politics III: Closed Architecture (Onomatopee, 2011), a research into a prison model developed by far-right Freedom Party (PVV) politician Fleur Agema. His projects were exhibited in among other the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven NL, the David Roberts Art Foundation in London UK, Extra City Kunsthal Antwerpen BE, Kadist Art Foundation in Paris FR, in Kathe exhibition “Enacting Populism curated by Matteo Lucchetti, and the 7th Berlin Biennale in Berlin DE. He regularly publishes in newspapers and magazines, such as NRC Handelsblad, de Groene Amsterdammer and Metropolis M.
