Reading by Matthew Stadler Hosted by Larry Rinder
22 Jun 2011
Riffing on the idea of a “cover song” Matthew Stadler based his new book, Chloe Jarren’s La Cucaracha, scene-for-scene and action-by-action on John Le Carré’s 1963 novel A Murder of Quality, creating a “score” of the le Carré book and then using it to write his own. The transition from Le Carré’s English countryside setting to Stadler’s 21st Century urban Mexican mise en scène allows for marvelous contrasts and compelling translations. Stadler read short sections from both Le Carré’s novel and his own, followed by a conversation with BAM/PFA Director Lawrence Rinder. We concluded the evening and the Spring season with special musical guests.
