Inspirée par son expérience personnelle et ses émotions, Shooshie Sulaiman propose des oeuvres et des situations qui créent des intéractions très nuancées et personnelles avec le public. Après avoir été diplômée des Beaux-Arts de MARA University of Technology (UiTM, Selangor, Malaisie) en 1996, elle a reçu le prestigieux prixdes jeunes artistes contemporains décerné par la National Art Gallery de Malaisie, et a participé à de nombreuses expositions et résidences en Malaisie et à l’étranger.
Elle a également participé à Art Basel section “Art Unlimited” et à la Biennale de Gwangju (2014), “10th Gwangju Biennale: Burning Down the House” (2014), “Open House”, Singapore Biennale (2011), Asia-Pacific Triennial (2009-10), Documenta 12 (2007), “Continuities: Contemporary Art of Malaysia At The Turn of The 21st Century”, Guangdong Museum of Art and the Florence Biennale (2003).
Comme un prolongement de sa pratique artistique, Shooshie Sulaiman a crée 12, un project space/espace d’exposition à Kuala Lumpur, Malaisie.
Shooshie Sulaiman
Born in 1973 in Muar, Malaysia.
Lives and works in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Often drawing on her experience, emotions and memories, Shooshie Sulaiman makes works and situations that create highly nuanced and personal interactions with their subjects and audiences. After receiving her BA in Fine Art from the MARA University of Technology (UiTM, Selangor, Malaysia) in 1996, she received the National Art Gallery of Malaysia’s prestigious Young Contemporaries Award, and has participated in numerous exhibitions and residencies in Malaysia and internationally.
In addition to the participation in Art Basel Art Unlimited sector and Gwangju Biennale in 2014, her previous group exhibitions include “10th Gwangju Biennale: Burning Down the House” (2014), ‘Open House’, Singapore Biennale (2011), Asia-Pacific Triennial (2009-10), Documenta 12 (2007), Continuities: Contemporary Art of Malaysia At The Turn of The 21st Century, Guangdong Museum of Art and the Florence Biennale (2003).
As part of her artistic practices, she also runs 12, an exhibition and project space in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
