Diva is a 1981 French thriller film directed by Jean-Jacques Beineix, adapted from the novel of the same name by Daniel Odier (under the pseudonym Delacorta). One of the first French films to relieve itself of the realist mood of the 1970s, it is marked by its return to a colorful, melodic style, later described as “cinéma du look.” Lisa Schwarzbaum of Entertainment Weekly gave it an A rating and praised its “voluptuous romanticism.”
Not to be missed.
