Zhou Tao
Résidence de l’artiste chinois Zhou Tao qui sera à Paris d’octobre à février, et bénéficiera d’une exposition personnelle à Kadist en janvier 2013.
Zhou Tao est né en 1976 à Changsha, Chine. Il vit et travaille à Guangzhou, Chine.
Sa pratique consiste à transformer nos espaces quotidens en théâtres dans lesquels il aime à inverser les codes : l’avant scène devient l’arrière-plan, le spectateur acteur, un fait devient Histoire, et sa documentation se confond avec sa représentation. Sa camera n’est pas que l’outil qui enregistre, mais l’extension de notre existence qui exige une participation active. Ainsi, les images qu’il produit n’existent pas seulement comme des spectacles détachés de la réalité, mais révèlent la mise en scène de notre vie quotidienne.
Zhou Tao will be in residency from October to February 2013. After his residency, a solo exhibition will be held at Kadist in January 2013.
Zhou Tao was born in 1976 in Changsha, China. He lives and works in Guangzhou, China.
There is no single path to enter Zhou Tao’s practice, as he denies the existence of any singular narrative and space in reality. In his videos, Zhou brings forward this complexity, in his words, the “folding scenario” or “zone with folds,” where different spaces collapse into each other. Through often subtle and humorous interactions with people, things, actions and situations, Zhou invites us to experience the multiple trajectories of reality. For him, the use of video is not a deliberate choice of artistic language or medium, instead the operation of the camera is a way of being that blends itself with everyday life.
