Alejandro Almanza Pereda
Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all
2015
Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all is a still life that falls apart, or rather floats apart as the composition is proved unstable and constantly morphing. An impossible attempt at achieving a fixed state, in this work some objects remain buoyant and some objects sink, constantly tilting the overall scale and arrangement. Properties of weight, mass and shape have their own will, but a hand appears in the scene, pushing back on these mysterious forces.
Alejandro Almanza Pereda has a heightened understanding of the essence of objects. His personal collections inform his practice as he explores laws of physics; gravity, motion, momentum along exposing the objects’ inherent sentimental value. Pereda’s practice spans sculpture, installation, photography and video. Every found object tells a story, and every made composition extracts the meaning of each story.
